Paul Chaleff: Sculpture - Tablets - Chargers
TurnPark Garage Gallery
May 17 - August 3
TurnPark Art Space presents "Sculpture(s), Tablets, and Chargers," an exhibition by renowned ceramist and sculptor Paul Chaleff. Known for his pioneering role in the revival of wood-fired ceramics and his innovative large-scale sculptures - and credited as one of the first to use wood-burning dragon kilns in the style of the anagama tradition - Chaleff bridges ancient traditions and contemporary concerns.
The exhibition, featuring primarily tablets and vessels, showcases the artist's signature blend of rough, gestural forms, imbued with his unique philosophical outlook.
Chaleff draws inspiration from diverse sources, including Neolithic pottery, Japanese anagama kilns, and the sculpture of artists like Isamu Noguchi and Anthony Caro.
“I use imperfection as a device to push the viewer to consider the difference between perfection and beauty,” says Chaleff.
Chaleff's works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many others.
