TurnPark Summer Festival 2024: Together

Join us for a day-long event filled with music, dance, performance art, immersive installations, wearable sculptures, meditation and rituals! This is an incredible opportunity for adults and children alike to come together with friends in a fun and transformational setting of an outdoor museum at the site of a former marble quarry. The visitors are invited to intermingle with the art, gather by a bonfire, enjoy delicious food, and participate in a community art project, or a workshop. The Summer Festival will offer opportunities to support Ukraine through the purchase of unique merchandise. This year's theme "Together" describes a willingness to engage with people through a genuine and authentic connection that comes from love and compassion in a constantly shifting world.

Victor Romanul and Lisa Kushious Romanul
(duo of electric violin and electric piano)
A 25-year member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, violinist Victor Romanul, together with his wife, pianist and Associate Professor of Music Performance at Wheaton College Lisa Kushious Romanul, will perform Foote's Ballade, op. 69, Saint-Saens Havanaise, op. 83, Fritz Kreisler's Caprice Viennois, Wieniawski's Polonaise Brillante, Op. 4 on the electric violin and electric piano. The natural setting of the quarry becomes a dynamic backdrop for Romanul's innovative sound.
The Magnificent Ms. Pham
Vietnamese-American water puppet show by Tommy Nguyen
The Magnificent Ms. Pham is a workshop premiere of the first Vietnamese American modern water puppet show. Directed and written by Tommy Nguyen, this puppet show tells the story of his mother traveling from Vietnam to America to find a new home and her identity.

A site-specific performance, "Stones" is a testament to the power of art to connect with and enhance the natural world. By intertwining dance with the surrounding landscape, "Stones" creates a truly immersive experience, blurring the lines between performer and audience.

RE-BIRTH is a performance centered on the theme of post-humanism, emphasizing humanity's perpetual quest for transformation. Throughout the performance, superhuman characters grant new life to humans, who become symbolic beings as they don new skins. The Sun, Bird, Bunny, and Orchid are the symbolic heroes of this new beginning, conducting a ritual to awaken the Earth.

May the PLUSH be With You is a series of joyful spontaneous dances of characters from Tommy Nguyen's world of color, pattern, play, and comfort. PLUSH is an invitation to embrace comfort and joy, multiply it, and share it with others.
FATAL THINGS: Sirin and Mermaid

"FATAL THINGS: Sirin and Mermaid" is a return of the Fate-like characters from the full-length play performed at TurnPark Summer Festival 2023, which aimed to process the grim realities of the war in Ukraine. Inspired by Slavic fairy tales and their occasionally grisly characters, this surreal multicultural extravaganza blended performative fiber arts, puppetry, music and dance in an attempt to answer the questions of life and death, free will and fate. This year, "FATAL THINGS: Sirin and Mermaid" transforms from a full-length play into a powerful visual art installation.

Tapestry of Intention

The musicians bringing the "KlimToT & Drey project" to life are Dima Klim and Sasha Drey - multi-instrumentalist artists with a passion for ethnic, ambient, and meditative sound. Currently residing in New York, they refined their musical skills through years of live-performance experience, including theatrical projects and work in the underground experimental music scene. This Sound Journey is a creative blend of shamanic, trance, and electronic sounds.

MOOBOX BAND
Maria Vasilevskaya, Dmitry Umansky
The Moobox band project debuted in 2020 in the Off-Broadway play "Voyeur," directed by Mara Lieberman. Moobox is comprised of Masha Vasilevskaya and Dmitry Umansky. They are a mobile micro-orchestra, a portable music kit accompanied by their dog Bublik. They've played for cows in fields, adults and children in parks, on Hudson River ferries, and while blowing bubbles! You can find their music in remote forests, and even on the move in the car! Moooosic is always with them.
Slava Yasser is a creator, medium, provocateur and inspirator-in-chief channeling the grace of communion and divine connection through music, performance and multimedia arts.

Echo of the Lost and Found by Inna Zhukovsky-Zilber
"Echo of the Lost and Found" is an outdoor visual installation inspired by Inna Zhukovsky-Zilber's "Lost and Found" exhibition at TurnPark Art Space. The installation invites viewers to contemplate their own journeys of loss and discovery through a poignant arrangement of objects from the exhibition. Nestled amongst these artifacts are notes left by visitors, each a whisper of personal reflections on what they've lost and found throughout their lives. These echoes of individual experiences resonate in the open air, inviting passersby to contemplate their own stories and the universal themes of loss, longing, and the resilience of the human spirit.
Dolls May Bite by Luna Go
Dolls May Bite returns to TurnPark to once again entice the viewer to some mischief and imagining. The Dolls are asking every visitor to tell a new fairy tale about them, to imagine a new world behind their eyes. Whether they are full of kindness, only slightly evil, or up to no good at all, is up for you to decide!
PARTICIPANTS:
Tommy Nguyen is a Vietnamese American artist born in California currently based in Brooklyn and Philadelphia. He works in sculpture, performance, illustration, video, animation, and puppetry, recently receiving the Henson Workshop Grant to produce the premiere workshop production of the first Vietnamese American Water Puppet show at TurnPark this summer.
Recipient of the ReVEALED Emerging Artist award, Tommy will install and curate performances for his continuing series may the PLUSH be with you playable, wearable queer armor at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland. Alongside this show, he will be collaborating with The Cleveland Art Museum to present a workshop PLAY SMELL TOUCH FEEL HEAR and WEAR your COLORS. Recipient of a fellowship from the Kunstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt, director and curator Manon Bursian will feature his work the institute's gallery this fall.
He recently curated a comic arts show at The Pace University Art Gallery showing the works of Barbara Slate, June Kim, Jesse Lambert, Suja Wong, Kuri Huang, and Ronald Wimberly. The show was funded by NYSCA and partially through National Endowment for the Humanities. Tommy publishes his comic and cartoon works through Eisner awarding winning publisher Rosarium where is he working on his queer comics BiHARD, Texas Chainsaw Manicure, and Kill Phil.
Victor Romanul is a violinist who has been performing professionally since the age of seven, has been intrigued by the possibility of amplified playing ever since seeing Joe Venuti and Stephane Grappelli perform in clubs with microphones in his youth, but didn't realize his dream of owning his own electric violin until two years ago during a visit to North Carolina to the onlystore in the country dedicated exclusively to electric bowed instruments. After trying a wide range of electric violins for two days straight, he found his match.
Finally as of this new 2025 season, Victor will be a full time soloist. With a repertoire of well over 100 concertos, and many solo pieces, he will be doing many performances of all types, all solo. He will also be spending time by passing on the knowledge of violin playing to young talented people via lessons. A student of Jascha Heifetz, Ivan Galamian, and Joseph Silverstein, he has performed in thousands of concerts over the years, all over the world. Having recently done several televised video streams of solo performances from the Symphony Hall stage and from Tanglewood as well as educational videos, all of behalf of the Boston Symphony he has also led the masterclasses of the Paganini caprices and the Ysyae sonatas at Tanglewood. Performer, a number of times, of the complete Paganini Caprices on one concert and of the 6 Ysyae Sonatas and the 6 Bach Sonatas, some of the most difficult repertoire, he is often a performer with many orchestras in a wide range of concerti and solo pieces. Victor also performs frequently as a solo recitalist, often with his wife of 43 years, Lisa. A father of five children and grandfather of 3, he has many hobbies which he enjoys in his beloved Massachusetts.
Lisa Kushious Romanul, pianist, is Associate Professor of Music Performance at Wheaton College. A Rhode Island native, she studied with Edna Bradley Wood and Susanna Waldbauer, and went on to study with Linda Jiorle Nagy and Bela Nagy at Boston University School for the Arts. A founding faculty member of the Music School in Providence, she also was a teaching associate at Brown University. At Wheaton College, Lisa teaches piano, and piano workshop, coaches chamber music and works as a collaborative pianist with singers and instrumentalists. She frequently collaborates with her husband, violinist Victor Romanul, in recitals throughout New England.
Uta Bekaia is a Georgian-born multimedia artist currently based in Brooklyn and Tbilisi. His artistic practice revolves around the speculative recreation of ancestral rituals, reimagined for a Queer utopian future. Drawing inspiration from traditional crafts, Bekaia creates elaborate wearable sculptures, ceramics, tapestries, and objects, which are assembled into immersive installations, films, and live performances.
Olga Rabetskaya is a U.S. based artist originally from Belarus. She is a dancer, choreographer, director and photographer whose work spans film, choreography and photography, multimedia production. Olga's artistic research and exploration focus on the deep knowledge of the body and how to share our emotional experience, memories, and body intelligence through movement.
Natasha Mirny is a teaching artist, performer, stage director, and founder of Happy Theater (www.happytheater.com). Her background is in pantomime, puppetry, and physical theater. She is currently working as a teaching artist and Arts Integration specialist at several theaters and educational programs in Washington DC area - Inspired Child, Arts for Learning,and Wolf Trap, Lucy School (Arts Based School) - designing and implementing programs for teachers and students in public and private schools in DC, VA and MD. For the past seven years Natasha has devised and directed more than ten shows for the audiences of different ages. Volga Bo is a yoga-teacher, songwriter, performer, ritualist, and a Spirit embodiment guide. She has been immersed in the journey of "above&below" exploration through dance, music, yoga, astrology, mystical and spiritual studies of various traditions and Indigenous cultures. She has been spreading consciousness for over a decade; in her classes and workshops, Volga fuses and mixes various genres of movement, breathing, and self-expressing. Dancing is one of her favorite ways to transcend and connect with the spiritual realms.
Dimitri Koan is an actor, director, dancer and multicultural performer based in New York City. In his acting career, he has played dozens of interesting and vibrant roles, participated in international festivals, collaborated with theaters and directors of various schools, styles, and directions, and appeared in films, TV shows, and commercials.
Dimitri is a thoughtful and aesthetically sensitive actor who firmly believes in the transformative power of the stage - as a social, political, emotional, and humanistic force! The encounter with the audience is always a dialogue, sharing energy, love, and something sacred!
Doug Fitch
Doug Fitch is a multimedia artist who works in media ranging from architecture and opera to puppetry and food.
Aliya Kamenshikov, Soprano, originally from Tatarstan, Russia, began her journey in liberal arts and jurisprudence with a passion for performing arts and sports. It wasn't until her move to the USA that she discovered her true calling in singing and acting. After graduating from Hunter College, where she studied psychology and classical music, Aliya embraced her passion for the performing arts, which led to a successful career as a professional opera singer, actress, and model, with her work spanning across New York and nationwide, encompassing various genres and modalities. Currently, Aliya is deepening her musical path as a Sound Healer, integrating her professional expertise with ancestral gifts, a profound connection to her soul and nature, and her ongoing personal healing journey. In addition, she is pursuing a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, aspiring to be a therapist who harmonizes art, science, and spirituality to guide others on their healing paths. Three years ago, Aliya joined the TurnPark community as a participant, where she flourished as a vessel of creative expression and a medicine woman. Aliya feels profound gratitude for being part of the TurnPark family and is excited to contribute to the collective journey of healing and the celebration of life!
Inna Zhukovsky-Zilber is a artist, born in Lithuania in 1971 to an engineer father and an artist mother, Inna Zhukovsky-Zilber played the violin and studied art from a young age. In 1990, Zhukovsky-Zilber and her family immigrated to Israel where she enrolled in the Department of Fine Arts at Haifa University, working in numerous mediums, including photography, the subject of her thesis. With her husband and twins, Zhukovsky-Zilbert immigrated to the United States in 2021, settling in Boston, where she became creative director of the proclaimed event planning company, Hopple Popple. She is also the founder of Kaziuki Wearable Art Company, the creations of which can be found in more than 30 stores worldwide. Together with Lidia Mykhaylova and others, Zhukovsky-Zilber led a community art project during the 2023 TurnPark Annual Summer Festival: Open Heart.

Slava Yasser is a creator, medium, provocateur and inspirator-in-chief channeling the grace of communion and divine connection through music, performance and multimedia arts. Born in Moldova into a Jewish family, growing up in Ukraine and Russia, Slava brought his multicultural heritage to New York in mid-90s. Through the last 30 years he performed in several collectives, co-founded a few festivals and organized hundreds of events. His mission has always been to foster and empower community connections, to heal the collective trauma of separation with integrity, trust, and intimacy.
Adelya Nazyrova was born in the city of Kazan, Tatarstan. She graduated from the Kazan Choreographic School (class of O.A. Borodina) in 2015 and completed an internship at the Academy of Russian Ballet Vaganova. Adelya worked in the ballet troupe of the theater "Kremlin ballet". Repertoire: Oriental dance ("The Nutcracker" by P.I. Tchaikovsky), Troika of Swans, Brides ("Swan Lake" by P.I. Tchaikovsky), Girlfriends of Giselle ("Giselle" by A. Adam), Troika of Dryads ("Don Quixote" L. Minkus). Since 2018 has been an artist of the ballet troupe of the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. In 2018 Took part in the All-Russian competition of ballet dancers and choreographers in the modern department. In 2019, she completed a summer internship on the Gaga technique in Italy and in Barcelona under the program at the IB stage.
Rush Carson grew up in Key Largo, Florida and trained in breaking at Catalyst Hiphop in Miami Springs. He was introduced to concert dance in high school at New World School of the Arts, where he also garnered a devoted passion for choreography and was selected as the YoungArts winner for choreography in 2020. He is graduating this May from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase with a BFA in Dance Performance and a concentration in Composition. Recently, he has worked with choreographers such as Ethan Colangelo, Andrea Miller, Loni Landon, Gregory Dolbashian, Kimberly Bartosik, Hannah Garner, and Francisco Gella. In addition to dance, Rush has composed and produced musical scores for choreographers such as Gregory Dolbashian, Michelle Thompson, Juan Carlos Franquiz, Elinor Kleber Diggs, and his own choreographic work.
Carl Ponce Cubero (they/them/siya) is a first generation Filipinx American movement artist/creative, originally from California's Central Valley, currently based out of New York City. Graduating from University of California, Irvine, they received their BFA in Dance Performance with a minor in Anthropology. While at university, they had the amazing honor and privilege of dancing under the late Donald McKayle. They have performed domestically and internationally with Ailey II from 2018-2020 and was a guest artist with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the Spring of 2022. Carl Ponce has had the opportunity to dance works by Donald McKayle, Alvin Ailey, Aszure Barton, Jessica Lang, Lar Lubovitch, Andrea Miller, and Rena Butler.
Elliana Lynch-Daniels (She/Her) is a Chapel Hill, North Carolina native. She attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for high school and proudly holds a BFA in Dance from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Upon Graduating, she was a part of the inaugural GibneyPro 2022 cohort under direction of Alexandra Wells, where she performed works by choreographers Elia Mrak, Laja Fields, and Rena Butler. Elliana has danced with choreographers Kyle Abraham, Camille A. Brown, Kayla Farrish, and Olga Rabetskaya among others. She has also attended programs such as Springboard Danse Montreal, NVA & Guests, Vim Vigor, Ate9, and multiple Gaga Labs. Elliana is currently freelancing in NYC and has worked on varying projects, like product campaigns for Virtue Labs and the designer Jane Wade for NYFW. Elliana hopes to continue to engage in more artistic pursuits with an emphasis in collaboration.
Gioia von Staden is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work encompasses performance, choreography and Yoga instruction. She is currently performing with 32nd Pack Dance Company, and in works by Joey Anderson, Caitlin Adams and more. She's danced in films and music videos for artists Kate Grahn and Been Stellar. She holds her BA in Dance and American Studies from Barnard College, where she performed works by Jess Smith and Chelsea Ainsworth of Dual Rivet, Shannon Gillen, Wesley Ensminger and Thuy Wyckoff. After graduation she danced with Salt Contemporary Dance's Second Company, performing works by Alice Klock, Garrett Smith, Sloan Caldwell, and Amy Gunter-Lolofie. She's so excited to be a part of the TurnPark Summer Festival!
Andrea Villarreal is a dancer and performance artist originally from Monterrey, Mexico. Having graduated from the Certificate Program at Peridance Center in 2023 (NY), Andrea has performed works by Tushrik Fredericks, Mike Tyus, Doug Varone, Pau Aran, Cesar Broderman. She has presented work at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY, and at Festival de Artes Vivas in Monterrey, Mexico.
Elinor Kleber Diggs is a multidisciplinary artist based in Harlem, New York. They were born and raised in Saint Paul Minnesota where they grew up training in dance at the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists and TU Dance Center. Elinor holds a BFA in Dance Performance with a Concentration in Composition from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. They have performed works by Chirisitan Warner, Dianne McIntyre, Bill T. Jones, Marcus Jarell Willis, Catherine Kirk, Hofesh Shecter, and Ronald K. Brown. Elinor recently debuted their work "The Point at Which Sensation Begins" as a part of the QUEER NOISE 2024 annual festival. In addition to dance, Elinor is also a photographer and videographer.
Luna Go is a multimedia artist and costume designer, who specializes in unexpected and colorful costuming decisions. Luna has worked with theater companies, outdoor performance venues and collaborators, including Krymov Lab NYC in their critically acclaimed run of Big Trip at LaMaMa ETC in the East Village, several performance groups at TurnPark Art Space in the Berkshires, and multiple theater companies in New York City. Luna's past experience includes set and costume design as well as hair and makeup for theatre and opera productions, independent sculptural work, abstract costume design and fiber-arts work, as well as installations and collaborations with other artists such as Uta Bekaia and Doug Fitch and Tommy Nguyen. She continues to work on costume and puppet design for Krymov Lab NYC, as well as designing for upcoming productions of Anna Karenina in New York, Pinocchio in Boston, and developing several of her own costume collections for the 2024-2025 seasons.
Maidibor (Sergey Aniskov) is an award-winning animation visionary and former Moscow Maly State Theater set designer, whose animated films have been featured in film festivals worldwide, including Cannes and the Sundance Film Festival. His work ranges from classic animation, to documentary film, to groundbreaking projection design for avant garde performances and theatrical productions. Sergey studied under the maestro of classical Russian theater set design - Yegeniy Kumankov, and brings his theatrical background to each project, injecting experimental productions with the fairy-tale graphics, signature to Sergey's artistic style. His experience in children's animation provides an additional layer of lighthearted whimsy to his projection works. Maidibor has developed creative property concepts and produced pitch reels that greenlighted productions for AOL, BBC Kids, Cartoon Network, Handmade Films, Lionsgate, MTV Networks International, Nickelodeon US and Australia, TV Ontario, and YTV Canada, among others. Sergey also directed and produced numerous episodes of animated broadcast and cable network series as well as online and mobile gaming and learning content for AOL, MTV, Harcourt-Mifflin, the US Department of Education, and the National Science Foundation. He is the owner and founder of the production company Sorka Enterprises.
Lidia Mikhaylova
Born and raised in Siberia, Lidia Mikhaylova built a successful career as a lawyer in the corporate world. However, after many years of working in this field, Lidia made the decision to move to Riga, Latvia in search of new ways to fulfill her dreams. In Latvia, Lidia became inspired by the colorful imagery of her surroundings and completely fell in love with painting.
"The fall of 2019 was one of the happiest and most fulfilling periods in my life," Lidia says.
"I had the opportunity to travel across the ocean and witness the incredible beauty of the east coast of America, and my art was seen by the eyes of distinguished American viewers. Three years in America taught me how to enjoy the changes, and anticipate transformations of the world around me. I continue to transfer the beauty of reality which surrounds me onto canvas or silk, and I get incredible pleasure from it."
In addition to developing her artistic practice, Lidia currently teaches, and leads master classes for children and adults in painting on silk and clothing.
Yulia Dumov
Yulia's expressive and seemingly effortless mixed media works depict contemporary events and experiences, including meditative museum and cafe scenes, unfathomable views of historical sites and cinematic atmosphere of cities' streets. The artist addresses a wide range of social concerns, such as environment, culture, ethnicity, and peace. Dramatic and illustrative quality of Yulia's paintings comes from the synthesis of candid and undistorted perception, spontaneous execution, unexpected color choice, academic drawing.
Tom Stevens is a painter, sculptor, and installation artist based out of Brooklyn, NY. Tom creates whimsical characters, fantastical creatures and mythical scenes with the intention to Inspire joy and spark imagination.
Brantner DeAtley has been combining work and life for the past 30 years. A graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/ Tufts University he now lives in Western Massachusetts withhis wife, son and many animals. There, on the land they have lived on for the past ten years they have developed Red Horse Sanctuary where there is a printmaking studio/classroom and workspaces for themselves and others. It is also home to their 3 donkeys and pony.
"Through my work I'm trying to slow the world down and focus on the animals that pass through my small section of this world. Capture a bit of their spirit, share in their energy. Using mostly salvaged materials from worksite dumpsters or leftover from jobs I'm on, donated detritus, or bits of things that have surpassed their purpose, I try to make sense of our contemporary world and celebrate what most of us take for granted."
