James Holl: a book signing and presentation of "The Landscape Painter "
Join us for the presentation of a new book by James Holl , “The Landscape Painter 1972-2023”, published by Edizioni Grifo of Lucca, Italy.
This new book comprehensively catalogs the career of painter and sculptor James Holl, describes his life and work in New York City from the 1970s through the present. The publication presents and contrasts Holl’s artwork with the contemporary artists and influences of modernism, anti-art, conceptualism, minimalism and the “isms” of postmodernism of this period. The book will include essays by the renowned writers and critics Carter Ratcliff and David Ebony as well as James Holl.
The event will be held at TurnPark Art Space, where Holl’s current exhibition, From Energy, Matter Emerges features his recent and ongoing series of large-scale oil on panel paintings titled "The Particle Point Collisions."
The book and exhibition aim to provide the viewers an insight into the philosophical thoughts and experiences of an idealistic artist over a five decade period of growth and development. The book is a reflection on fundamental meanings of the arts at a time when much of the visual arts had increasingly become financial instruments.
The event will be a chance to engage with James Holl's artwork, connect with the artist, and learn more about his fascinating journey.
